The design for the Tedx UT Austin Backdrop is the latest instance of an on-going design, fabrication, assembly, and installation project by Kory Bieg and Clay Odom. The project explores novel formal, spatial, and material effects using computational design and fabrication tools.
The conference theme for the first inaugural Tedx UT Austin conference was Resonance. The conference organizers – students at UT Austin – describe the theme this way:
It has been said that something as small as the flutter of a butterfly’s wings can cause a raging tempest on the other side of the world. The butterfly’s gentle breeze is magnified as it tips the world towards a new reality.
Its effect, like a drop of water in the vast ocean, resonates through its surroundings – showing how something seemingly miniscule can have an unquantifiable effect on the world. With this idea, we introduce our 2018 theme: Resonance.
From Martin Luther King Jr’s impromptu “I Have a Dream” speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial to Sir Alexander Fleming’s unexpected discovery of penicillin that revolutionized medicine, resonance has defined our reality, with one butterfly’s flutter after another.
